The purpose-built facilities will enable the British Geological Survey (BGS) and Heriot-Watt University (HWU) to build on their expertise in land and marine conservation, geology and geoscience.
The Lyell Centre's research themes are clustered in two main areas: applied geoscience and ecosystems science.
HWU and BGS have joined forces to create a new research centre for earth and marine science and technology.
The partnership has worked closely with their funders, in particular RCUK and EU research programmes, to develop relevant solutions to demanding challenges in marine, earth and ecosystem sciences.
The Lyell Centre is centrally positioned to catalyse and lead integrated and innovative research directions.
