Guests

Dr Zeinab Smillie

Dr Zeinab Smillie
Zeinab Smillie is Daphne Jackson/NERC Assistant Professor with an expertise in mineralogy, petrology, and geochemistry. Zeinab's current research concentrates on deep-water sedimentary systems and processes, especially the contourite deposits from the IODP Expedition 339 on Mediterranean outflow.
Email: z.smillie@hw.ac.uk

Dr James Spray

Dr James Spray
James is investigating the photochemical and microbial degradation of organic matter (OM) as it passes through rivers, for both temperate streams and tropical rainforest headwaters. These processes alter the concentration and composition of OM, and contribute to the release of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. He is also exploring virtual reality and gamification as tools for science communication, with a focus on bringing the Iwokrama Rainforest to life as a virtual experience.
